Bush-Era Political Essays:

Human Revolution  (December 2007)
My short essay calling for a major paradigm shift in human self-perception.
The End  (December 2007)
Civilization is headed for collapse, and nobody seems to be thinking about it, talking about it, or doing
anything about it.  These are my thoughts and feelings on the matter.
Torture and the Problem of Power  (December 2007)
The real reason the US tortured prisoners under the Bush administration reveals a deeper, more sinister
Why We Can't Afford Victory in Iraq  (January 2008)
Unless the consequences of the US invasion of Iraq are devastating, it may happen again.
Skepticism and the Climate Crisis  (December 2007)
Even if there is reason to doubt the dire predictions of scientists regarding the changes in the Earth's
climate, we ought to act anyway.
Why We Do Nothing  (December 2007)
Many of us know we have to rise up and march in the streets and demand the revolution necessary for
a sane way of life on this planet, but we don't do anything.
A Radical Proposal  (September 2001)
An e-mail I wrote in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, calling for a national response of peaceful outreach
rather than violent retribution.  It's too bad no one was listening.

Book Reviews:

How to Win a Cosmic War  (July 2009)
A review and short summary of the main arguments made by Reza Aslan in his excellent book about
relations between the West and the Muslim world during the War on Terror.
Confessions of an Economic Hit Man  (February 2008)
A brief review of John Perkin's excellent autobiographical novel detailing his part in the expansion of
    the American Empire.
Endgame  (January 2008)
My essay highlighting the extremely troubling yet undeniably reasonable arguments by Derrick Jensen
that industrial civilisation is bound to collapse, and that we ought to help bring it down.
Amusing Ourselves to Death  (January 2008)
My essay highlighting the excellent points made by Neil Postman in his classic 1980s manifesto that
the medium of television does even more social harm than you think.
Bill O'Reilly's Culture Warrior (January 2008)
When my conservative grandfather sent me a copy of Bill O'Reilly's book, I responded with this
collection of counter-arguments to all of its major points.  This piece could be useful for anyone
looking for concise, logical replies to common conservative arguments.
Takeover  (December 2007)
A review of the eye-opening book by Charlie Savage revealing how Bush and Cheney have torn apart
the constitution and allowed themselves to rule with almost despotic power.
Static  (January 2008)
A brief review highlighting the most outrageous abuses of the Bush administration featured in this book
    by Amy and David Goodman.
Fiasco  (November 2007)
A short review of Thomas Ricks' excellent book explaining how we got into the disastrous war in Iraq
and how it went horribly wrong.

"Synthian Truth"  (August 2006)
My latest and greatest short story is more of a philosophical manifesto than an actual fictional
narrative.  It should appeal to anyone who is interested in religion, science, and philosophy, as well as
    just plain cool ideas.
"Unborn Fetuses v. The Constitution"  (May 2002)
In my last semester of high school I had a bad case of senioritis, and instead of writing a report on
what the Roe v. Wade case teaches us about "who governs?" and "to what ends?" for a class I took in
government and politics, I wrote this short story and received an A on the assignment in spite of the
    minor insubordination.
